For Funders

💡 For Funders

Back something that genuinely fills a gap.

Greater Manchester has a documented, growing shortage of accessible ESOL provision. SLC CIC is building the model that addresses it — free, online, small classes, and built around the real language of life in the UK. We are at pilot stage and looking for funders who want to be part of something that matters.

Support our Crowdfunder

Every donation goes directly towards delivering free ESOL classes for adults across Greater Manchester who have no other access to provision. No management fees. Straight to teaching.

Progress towards £2,500 Ends 8 August 2026

The problem we solve

A real and growing shortage — and a model built to address it

1,200+

On the GM waiting list

Adults across Greater Manchester are waiting for ESOL with no guaranteed placement date. Demand has outstripped supply for years and is not reducing.

0

Free online provision in GM

No other provider in Greater Manchester offers free, fully online ESOL with flexible start dates and evening sessions.

Max 12

Learners per class

Typical GM ESOL classes have 25 or more learners. We cap at 12 — so everybody speaks, every session. That is the whole point.

£0

Cost to learners

Free to every eligible learner. No fees, no charges, ever. Cost is never a barrier to accessing our provision.

What your funding delivers

Five outcomes we measure and report on

Learners who understand their commitments, can complete their journal, and can engage with DWP correspondence.

💻

Digital skills

Practical competency in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, OneDrive, and AI translation tools — built into every session.

📬

Document independence

The ability to read, translate, and act on official letters without relying on others for help.

💼

Improved English for job applications, interviews, and workplace communication — and the confidence to use it.

The longer term

Building towards sustainability

We are a pilot-stage CIC. Our immediate priority is delivering high-quality provision and gathering the evidence that underpins everything that comes next. Here is how we see the journey.

Now

Pilot and proof

Delivering our first cohorts, measuring outcomes, and building the evidence base that demonstrates impact and informs future funding bids.

Year 1–2

Grow the teaching team

Recruit additional ESOL tutors with a focus on languages and communities currently underserved in Greater Manchester — increasing capacity without compromising class quality.

Year 2+

Commissioned provision

With a track record of delivery, we will pursue commissioned provision through local authority, housing association, and adult education funding routes.
